Summary of Support Systems For Life Enhancement

Hypnotherapy

Based upon the totally natural process of hypnosis this gentle therapy has many uses, either as a therapy in itself or as a supporting function to other behaviour or attitude-changing techniques and therapies. Used by many people to help break habits such as to stop smoking or lose weight, or to overcome phobias such as fear of flying or of insects, Hypnotherapy may also be simply used as an exercise in profound relaxation, either as a part of everyday life or to overcome specific, short term, stress-producing situations such as school or driving examination nerves or even attending the dentist.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a very practical therapy that focuses on the "here and now" rather than looking in the past for the cause of your concerns as do other “talking therapies”. Aimed at constructively challenging the way that you think about the problems you face it helps you overcome your own self limiting beliefs and negative thought patterns, which may have become habit, by seeing things differently. By creating new, more positive ways of habitually thinking through problems it generates a more healthy, constructive and positive way of experiencing your world.

Counselling

Counselling is a supportive practice based upon an understanding relationship between client and counsellor whereby non-judgmental, unconditional positive regard is extended to the client in working through the issues surrounding a current concern. The counsellor acts as a supportive guide in helping the client to find their own preferred solution to their difficulty. Often used in times of emotional or traumatic stress surrounding events such as divorce or personal loss, when we may be temporarily overcome by events or their resultant complexities, counselling is a valuable supportive therapy which can help us to see the issues involved and the way ahead more clearly.

Emotional Intelligence Quotient (EI or EQ)

Have you noticed that some people are more intolerant, demanding and selfish than others and how difficult they can be to deal with? Being self-aware, managing one’s own emotions and being in control of one’s self leaves space to become aware of the feelings and emotions of others. This can lead to greater understanding of their needs and the true meaning of their behaviour, enabling you to cope with their demands more easily and direct their energy into more productive and positive channels. Emotional Intelligence, one of the secrets of a fulfilling life.

Psychotherapy & Hypno-analysis

An analytical approach to client issues usually associated with seeking out underlying past, root-causes to problems. These may be historical family or social circumstances that, not dealt with at the time, unconsciously still disturb us or affect our attitudes towards life. It may also deal with issues of past abuse, either physical, verbal or sexual or simply explore what originally gave rise to present negative attitudes and outlooks in order to produce positive change. Commonly used for issues such as anger management or deep-rooted insecurity this approach usually requires a more extended schedule of meetings.

Alzheimer’s Care

The care of people living with various types of dementia, such as Alzheimer’s, is a specialised area requiring great patience and understanding. The condition places great demands not only upon the individual but also most particularly upon their family group and loved ones for whom this can be a most testing, frustrating and demanding condition to cope with. The specialised use of a combination of the above therapies has recently been shown to improve the quality of life of dementia patients and is particularly helpful to family support members. Specific training has been undertaken at The Paloma Centre to ensure that these patients and their family support groups can be addressed in a more meaningful manner.
